In 1865 and in 1890 two strikes in the Fermanagh tailoring industry seen members of the Amalgamated Society of Tailors and Tailoresses prosecuted and imprisoned for alleged intimidation of strike breakers. The Tailors Society had been established in Fermanagh since at least 1854. William Kelly, later to be a leading figure in the local labour movement was a member of this union and was probably involved in the 1890 strike.
