We’ll get them in the long grass
The booklet on Jim Brown’s life, “We’ll get them in the long grass” was produced as part of the centenary celebrations of the Enniskillen Unite the Union Branch(formerly Enniskillen branch of the Amalgamated and Transport and General Workers Union) The booklet map’s the life of one of its longest serving Branch Secretaries.
Brown’s life is outlined in detail. From being born in poverty in the 1920’s, to being hired out to local big farmers at 12 years old. He joined the British army during World War Two at 15 and a half years old. His return from Bristol in the late 1940’s to fight for fairness in his own community when he organised the workers in the Lisbellaw Woollen mill into the Transport and General Workers Union. Brown went on to serve workers in the county for five decades in a voluntary basis up until his death in 2003.
